Produce……

I am afraid there is not a great deal of human action in this post – but plenty of vegetable action, as all the veg seem to be in a race to outdo each other! As you can see, it is all looking very lush.

The tomatoes. down the right hand side of the path, have turned into a jungle. I did have enough really long sticks to hold them up so they have just tangled themselves all together – not that it seems to have stopped them producing a prodigious number of tomatoes. Paula says she is going to come with some super long canes and sort them out – good luck Paula!

But it is not just the tomatoes. The two cucumbers that survived the slug onslaught earlier in the year are going like trains – one has started making its way across the path to join the tomatoes. You can see three little budding cucumbers well on the way in this picture and there are at least eight more waiting in the wings.

Next door to the cucumbers our corn on the cob is nearly ready to harvest –

and on their other side the aubergines are growing apace.

And here they are less than month ago being planted out so you can see how they have grown.

On that same morning three weeks ago we also planted a new crop of potatoes – and look how they have grown! I have been trying to ‘earth them up’ with straw from The Friendly Farmers – but they are growing too fast for me to keep up!

Meanwhile, the raspberries are now producing fruit – but because I did not water them earlier in the season they are quite small. And the runner and French beans – although they have shot up to the top of their wigwam poles and produced lots of flower do not seem to have produced much in the way of beans. But the chard is still going strong – and we got a nice little crop of beetroot a couple of weeks ago.

However, the real excitement was when we pulled apart some of the vine leaves – and found two bunches of grapes lurking underneath!! They are definitely not ready yet (I tried one and I can tell you that they are not ready yet….) but a treat to look forward to.
