Yes, things certainly moved on last week! Here are Steve and Stephen fixing our new pergola, created out the off cuts of wood left by the builders, and complete with another huge planter. We are planning to grow a vine up and over the pergola and I am not sure whether to put its feet in the planter or on the other side. For now, I have just planted some more leaves and radishes.
Meanwhile, Steve’s lovely broken slate water feature has come together, now just needing securing and the addition of the water!

Out in the planters, life is burgeoning….. Here are the beans and the corn and I have now been picking fresh leaves for supper for a week!

And as you can see, thanks to the protection of our scaffolding netting, the grass is growing a treat.
In the corner under the roses is our new cucumber and courgette garden – although I fear someone other than us has been having a munch on that right hand courgette since we planted it…

Up on the patio meanwhile, Michael the Ecologist has filled the old butler’s sink with grit, gravel and soil and has been busy planting out our herb garden.

And this is it ten days later, all well bedded in. We are going to use those bricks with holes that you can see under it to create a bug hotel in that nice secluded corner.
And the best thing is that last Monday we brought the children and their families up for their first visit to the garden. They were able to pull up some radishes and cut some leaves to take home – and even harvest some strawberries from the hanging basket on the pergola – which obviously got eaten on the spot!

And here is the salad that one of our mums made with our leaves!

So we are making excellent progress towards our opening on SUNDAY JUNE 22nd for the NATIONAL GARDEN SCHEME.
The garden, along with the flower garden next door will be open from 12 noon to 6pm. We will be serving tea and home made cakes – and there will be music all afternoon – a guitarist, a saxophone quartet and a jazz cellist!
£5 entry (children free) and you can book in advance or pay on the door.

Growth!
